The government is working on preparing a complete database on climate change

Bangladesh:

Dr. Farhina Ahmed, the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, has stated that by the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, the government is making efforts to regularly compile a transparent and verifiable database at the national level. This database covers various sectors, such as energy, agriculture, forestry, and industry, within Bangladesh.

To facilitate the collection of data related to greenhouse gas emissions, climate change adaptation, and mitigation, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics. The primary objective is to ensure the sustainable and accurate submission of data to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in the form of national reports.

These remarks were made by the Environment Secretary during the MoU signing ceremony, which took place as part of the ‘Strengthening Capacity for Environmental Emissions under the Paris Agreement in Bangladesh’ project. The project is being implemented by the Department of Environment and was held at Hotel Intercontinental, Dhaka, on October 8.

Secretary Farhina Ahmed also highlighted the development of the web-based Bangladesh Climate Change MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) system under this project. The system aims to streamline the process of data collection related to greenhouse gas emissions, climate change adaptation, and mitigation. It makes data collection easier, cost-effective, and verifiable, allowing relevant stakeholders to directly access their data and provide input. Additionally, they can monitor analyses generated based on the data they provide.
